Professor Darryl Veitch’s career profile is that of a researcher, classically trained and mainly based in academia, but with strong ties to industry.

His technical background is broad, covering Mathematics (PhD), Computer Science, Statistics, Telecommmunications Engineering, and Open Source Software. His speciality is computer networking, in particular measurement and modelling of the Internet, where he enjoys a strong international profile, and the status of a Fellow of the IEEE.

Prof. Veitch’s work frequently combines mathematical rigour and data analysis, with a focus on impact for applications. He has over 140 articles in top tier publications, which have attracted over 7600 citations and 4 awards. He has teaching experience at both the undergraduate and graduate level, and is an experienced and energetic speaker both in English and French.

Prof. Veitch has spent over five years working within research laboratories of communications companies in Australia (Telstra), Europe (France Telecom, Technicolor) and the United States (Bellcore, Sprint), as well as government funded research organisations (INRIA, France). Within academia he has collaborated with industry under a number of different models, including ARC Linkage Grants (Sprint, Symmetricom), and grant-in-aid donations (Sprint, Cisco, Google, Symmetricom).

In 2000 he co-founded the Ericsson funded EMUlab within the University of Melbourne, the only Ericsson research group worldwide outside the company itself, and managed it from 2000-2002. He hold patents with AT&T Bell Labs and Sprint.
