Prof. Marpaung is the chairholder of the Nonlinear Nanophotonics group at the University of Twente. He was a Senior Research Fellow at CUDOS University of Sydney, working Prof. Benjamin Eggleton.
In 2016 he founded the company Luxava focusing on tunable RF photonic filter products. He joined the University of Twente in 2018 as an associate professor and was promoted to Full Professor in 2022.
Prof. Marpaung’s research focuses on harnessing stimulated Brillouin scattering in scalable integrated platform for applications in RF photonics, laser and frequency combs, and quantum photonics. His group has demonstrated the first guided acoustic wave SBS in various important platforms, including silicon nitride, thick silicon on insulator, and thin film lithium niobate.
Since joining University of Twente, Prof. Marpaung has been awarded prestigious personal grants including the NWO Vidi award and the ERC Consolidator grant.
